My Coding Journey

A personal reflection on the experiences, setbacks and discoveries that shaped a student's passion for coding.

My Coding Journey artwork

You see, I first learned how to code with Scratch, using colorful blocks that linked to one another so I could create small games and animations.

It was exciting to see it all come together on my laptop—simple and intuitive enough to feel like a little game, but still enough to make me want to dig deeper into the world of programming and computers. Then I learned more and wanted to create bigger projects. Scratch got boring, and I stopped coding.

Enter Python

From drag-and-drop visuals to text-based coding, I had to adjust my mindset from handheld coding to a new form of communication, but it opened my eyes to coding’s real potential.

“Once the logic of programming began to make sense, it felt like piecing together a puzzle until everything finally worked.”

Small projects became easier as I learned the basic logic systems, and I began taking coding seriously and thinking like a real programmer.

A Forced Pause

And then I fell and broke my wrist.

After a forced separation from coding, I realized how much I loved it. Not only did I resent the inconvenience during the long months of healing, but I also missed something that meant so much to me.

Game Changer

Once I was able to type again, I transitioned into JavaScript.

In seconds, I understood how coding could produce output directly in a browser and create real functionality. Soon, small interactive websites and games became my reality through JavaScript.

These projects combined design elements with real-world functionality—the same creative side of coding that made me love Scratch in the first place.

So far, every stage of my coding journey—Scratch, Python, JavaScript, and Robotics—has taught me about creativity, patience, and problem-solving.

My experience hasn’t been linear or free of challenges, but every stage along the way has taught me something meaningful about why coding is so important to me today. It’s part of who I am; it’s not just what I do.
